Antique Japanese tansu are decorated with shagreen (stingray skins). The ivory-toned skins contrast with the distressed black metalwork, adding a contemporary and empathetic material to the structure. LAMONT developed this process, inspired by the Japanese, who were the first to use shagreen as a decoration on armour. Each tansu is a unique piece, finished in the LAMONT workshop in Bangkok.
