Elusive Ivory.
Most documents surviving antiquity were recorded on parchment or vellum, called goatskin, one of the earliest writing surfaces. Starting in the Art Deco period, craftsmen used parchment for accessories and furniture. LAMONT creates a range of classic and antiquated parchment in our workshop near Bangkok. The carefully-prepared skins are distinct from leather since parchment is not tanned, but is stretched, scraped and dried under tension. The subtle grain and translucent surface bring a warm and modern veneer to our products.
Rare and beautiful materials are sourced from Southeast Asia, Europe, India and China. We choose materials with understated elegance and rich crafts traditions.
