At LAMONT made by hand means that an object is made with skill and experience in traditional methods. We bring artisans from around the world to teach our staff in Bangkok. Jean Perfettini, master of galuchat and marquetry at the Musee des Art Decoratifs, Paris, taught our artisans in shagreen, parchment and marquetry. Norbert Gutowski, head of furniture restoration in Westdean College, UK taught in our workshop on the art of shellac polishing and furniture restoration. Keniji Kayama came to Bangkok to show us techniques of natural lacquer polishing and Japanese gilding while Khun Shoson, Head of Production, spent time in Kyoto, furthering our knowledge on lacquering and metalwork. We employ a number of graduates from fine arts schools in Bangkok with skills in shell inlay, scarab wing inlay, classical painting and gilding. This gathering of fine and applied decorative artists is - to our knowledge - unique in Asia. Our commitment to the strong meeting of craft and design is the foundation of our company.
